Click to View Larger... Click to View Larger...Truck Turner (1974) - A 1974 blaxploitation film, starring Isaac Hayes and Yaphet Kotto, and directed by Jonathan Kaplan. The screenplay was written by Michael Allin, Jerry Wilkes and Oscar Williams. Isaac Hayes also scored the music for the soundtrack.

Truck Turner (portrayed by Isaac Hayes) is a former professional football player who becomes a bounty hunter (along with his partner Jerry) in search of a bail-jumping pimp in Los Angeles, California. After a shootout where Truck has to use deadly force to kill the pimp, Turner becomes a marked man and is targeted by hired assassins.

This was a fill-in job for Isaac Hayes that fell in someplace between singing about the bad mother Shaft, and when he was the wise Chef on South Park. I'm not sure where his 3 episode arc as Gandolph Fitch on Rockford Files falls in there.

In our continuing celebration of Mother's Day, we present "Mother Movies". Enjoy!

Click to View Larger... Click to View Larger...Mother's Day (1980) - The plot begins with the long-time friendship of three women, Abbey (Nancy Hendrickson), Jackie (Deborah Luce), and Trina (Tiana Pierce), who reunite every year to take a camping trip. Once while setting their vacation up in the woods, they find their trip turns into a worst nightmare when they are captured by a group of two partially insane punk/"hillbilly" hybrids: Ike (Holdem McGuire) and Addley (Billy Ray McQuade). The punks lead a comfortable life, living along with their mentally abnormal mother (Rose Ross) in an occult hovel situated amidst the wood. All through the movie, their mother goads her sons into acts of rape, violence, and murder. Eventually one of the women is severely brutalized by Ike and Addley, and the remaining two escape before the first dies from her sustained injuries. They soon regroup, arm themselves, and set out for bloody revenge against Ike, Addley, and Mother. After the girls took their revenge at the end of the film, they were about to leave the woods but they were attacked by the mother's Deformed sister, Queenie. (Video after the jump.)

Rape Squad - Click to View Larger Rape Squad - Click to View LargerThe Rape Squad AKA Act of Vengeance (1974) - Linda gets raped by a man in a hockey mask. She finds that a few other women have had the same treatment. Together they form a squad that starts looking for the man and also changes the mind of would-be rapists.

Just watched this movie on Netflix this afternoon. The movie definitely sends mixed messages. The movie was written by a woman, but directed by a man. The girls join together to form a squad to avenge the rapes of themselves and other women, but they make their organizational plans while they all float nude in a hot tub. During the rape scenes, the camera concentrates almost lovingly on the nudity of the rape victim. See what I mean about mixed messages?

There are some good scenes, such as where the "Rape Squad" all pile out of a VW Microbus and beat the shit out of a pimp who's hasseling one of his "ladies". They also trash his car and leave him laying on the hood.

All in all, if you have Netflix, it's not a horrible way to spend an hour and a half, but I wouldn't buy it on DVD.
